The VIKING YouSafe™ Blizzard is a premium insulated immersion suit designed to provide enhanced protection in extreme cold-water environments, including applications covered by the Polar Code. Developed for commercial shipping, offshore operations and other demanding maritime environments, the Blizzard combines thermal insulation, integrated buoyancy and a comprehensive range of emergency features in a single suit.
The suit features a durable PU-coated nylon outer shell combined with an integrated quilted thermal liner. Its multi-layer construction provides approximately twice the insulation of a standard SOLAS immersion suit, while the integrated 300 g thermal insulation helps reduce heat loss following immersion in cold water.
Unlike immersion suits that require a separate lifejacket, the Blizzard incorporates integrated buoyancy, allowing it to be used without a separate lifejacket. This integrated buoyancy system provides flotation while reducing the amount of equipment the wearer needs to put on during an emergency.
The oversized design is intended to make the suit easier to don quickly while providing freedom of movement and improved comfort. Integrated elastic suspenders allow the fit to be adjusted, while the waterproof extended zipper provides a secure closure. Fully integrated boots with heavy-duty soles and adjustment straps provide protection and stability during evacuation and rescue operations.
For additional protection of the hands, the Blizzard features strap-attached neoprene gloves. Emergency and rescue equipment includes an integrated light, whistle, buddy line and lifting becket. The high-visibility yellow colour is designed to make the wearer easier to locate, particularly in dark or challenging water conditions.
The Blizzard is particularly suited to cold and polar environments. VIKING recommends the suit for Polar Code applications and identifies it as part of its range of SOLAS-approved immersion suits for commercial shipping, offshore and other professional maritime operations.
The suit is available in three sizes, including Small, Universal and Oversize, covering a wide range of user heights and weights. An airtight packing option is available for compact storage, while a high-grade VIKING sprayhood can be added for additional protection.
The integrated buoyancy module can be removed before washing, and VIKING recommends careful folding and storage to maintain the longevity of the buoyancy system. The recommended service interval is three years, with more frequent servicing recommended after ten years.
The VIKING YouSafe™ Blizzard is approved to SOLAS/MED and Transport Canada requirements, making it a certified solution for professional maritime applications where enhanced thermal protection, buoyancy and cold-water survival are critical.
Overall, the Blizzard is best positioned as a premium polar immersion suit rather than a standard immersion suit, offering significantly enhanced thermal insulation and integrated buoyancy for operations in particularly cold and demanding environments.
