Honeywell BW Solo NH₃ Standard 0–100 ppm – Portable Ammonia Gas Detector

The Honeywell BW Solo NH₃ Standard is a professional single-gas detector designed for continuous monitoring of ammonia (NH₃) from 0–100 ppm. It features a clear backlit display, audible, visual and vibrating alarms, IP66/IP68 protection, replaceable sensor and battery, and easy calibration and servicing. The detector is ATEX, IECEx and CE certified and carries ABS Type Approval, but is NOT SOLAS/MED approved.

The Honeywell BW Solo NH₃ Standard is a professional single-gas detector designed for reliable, continuous monitoring of ammonia (NH₃) in potentially hazardous working environments. This version is equipped with an electrochemical ammonia sensor and is designed for applications where personnel need dependable personal monitoring of ammonia exposure.

The NH₃ Standard version has a measuring range of 0–100 ppm, with a resolution of 1 ppm. The detector can be configured with low, high, TWA (Time-Weighted Average) and STEL (Short-Term Exposure Limit) alarm settings, allowing the instrument to be configured according to the requirements of the application.

The BW Solo provides audible, visual and vibrating alarms, giving the wearer multiple warning methods when an unsafe gas concentration is detected. The audible alarm is rated at 95 dB, while the clear 128 × 64 pixel backlit display provides easy-to-read information about gas levels, alarms and instrument status.

Unlike maintenance-free detectors such as the BW Clip, the BW Solo is designed to be serviced and maintained. The sensor, battery and sensor filter can be replaced without having to replace the complete detector. Calibration can be performed manually or automatically using the Honeywell IntelliDoX docking system. Calibration and bump-test reminders can also be configured to help maintain an effective gas detection programme.

The detector also supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) on wireless versions, allowing connection to compatible Honeywell applications for instrument management, configuration and data handling. When used with IntelliDoX, instrument data can be downloaded and settings, calibration and bump-test activities can be managed efficiently.

With an IP66/IP68 protection rating, the BW Solo is designed to withstand demanding working environments and protection against dust and water ingress. The detector weighs approximately 103–116 g, depending on the installed sensor, and has compact dimensions of approximately 70 × 67 × 36 mm for 1-Series sensor models.

The NH₃ sensor has a specified operating temperature range of approximately -20°C to +40°C for the 0–100 ppm version. The standard NH₃ sensor is also listed by Honeywell with a one-year sensor warranty, subject to the applicable Honeywell warranty terms.

⚠️ SOLAS / MED approval

This product is NOT SOLAS/MED approved.

This distinction is particularly important for marine customers. ABS Type Approval is not the same as SOLAS/MED approval. Having ABS Type Approval does not mean that the detector is MED-certified or that it automatically satisfies a vessel’s SOLAS gas-detection requirements.

Therefore, this Honeywell BW Solo NH₃ Standard should not be selected where SOLAS/MED approval is specifically required. Customers purchasing gas detection equipment for vessels should always check the requirements of the vessel, flag state, class society and applicable regulations before selecting the detector.

Approval summary

✓ ATEX
✓ IECEx
✓ CE
✓ Inmetro
✓ ABS Type Approved
✓ IP66/IP68
✗ NOT SOLAS/MED APPROVED

The Honeywell BW Solo NH₃ Standard 0–100 ppm is therefore a professional solution for continuous ammonia monitoring in industrial, hazardous-area and certain marine applications where SOLAS/MED approval is not a requirement. For applications where SOLAS/MED-approved portable gas detection is mandatory, customers should select a suitable product from your SOLAS Approved Gas Detection category.
