Honeywell BW Solo O₂ Standard

The Honeywell BW Solo O₂ Standard is a professional single-gas oxygen detector designed for continuous O₂ monitoring in hazardous environments. It features a reliable 1-Series oxygen sensor, clear display, audible, visual and vibrating alarms, IP68 protection and easy servicing. The detector is ATEX, IECEx and CE certified and carries ABS Type Approval, but is NOT SOLAS/MED approved.

The Honeywell BW Solo O₂ Standard is a robust and easy-to-service single-gas detector designed for reliable, continuous monitoring of oxygen (O₂) in potentially hazardous working environments. It is part of Honeywell’s BW Solo range and uses a 1-Series electrochemical oxygen sensor, providing dependable measurement while keeping the instrument straightforward to operate and maintain.

The O₂ version has a standard measuring range of 0–30% by volume, with a resolution of 0.1% O₂. The instrument can be configured with low, high, TWA (Time-Weighted Average) and STEL (Short-Term Exposure Limit) alarms, allowing the detector to be configured according to the requirements of the application.

The BW Solo is designed with the user in mind. Its clear backlit display provides easy-to-read gas information and instrument status, while the detector uses audible, visual and vibrating alarms to alert the wearer when an alarm condition occurs. The audible alarm is rated at 95 dB. The instrument also performs self-tests of the sensor integrity, circuitry, battery and alarm indicators when activated, helping to confirm that the detector is functioning correctly.

With an IP66/IP68 protection rating, the BW Solo is designed to withstand demanding working conditions and offers protection against dust and water ingress. The instrument weighs approximately 103–116 g, depending on the installed sensor, making it suitable for personal gas monitoring without adding significant weight to the user’s equipment.

One of the key advantages of the BW Solo is its serviceability. Unlike maintenance-free detectors such as the BW Clip, the BW Solo is designed so that the sensor and instrument can be serviced, calibrated and maintained. Calibration can be performed manually or automatically using the Honeywell IntelliDoX docking system. The detector can also be configured with calibration and bump-test reminders to help organisations maintain their gas detection programme.

The BW Solo can also be supplied with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) functionality, allowing compatible versions to connect with Honeywell’s Safety Communicator App. This provides additional options for instrument management, configuration and data handling. The detector is also compatible with the IntelliDoX instrument management system.

Approvals & certifications

The Honeywell BW Solo platform has a range of international hazardous-area certifications and approvals, including:

  • ATEX: Ex ia IIC T4 Ga / Ex ia I Ma
  • IECEx: Ex ia IIC T4 Ga / Ex ia I Ma
  • CE: European Conformity / ATEX compliance
  • ABS: Type Approved 21-2143903-PDA
  • CSA: Hazardous-area certification for applicable configurations
  • INMETRO: Applicable certified configurations

⚠️ SOLAS / MED approval

This product is NOT SOLAS/MED approved.

De Wolf Maritime Safety specifically lists the BW Solo O₂ Standard as “SOLAS/MED-approved: No.”

This is an important distinction for marine customers. Although the BW Solo has ABS Type Approval and a number of internationally recognised hazardous-area certifications, ABS approval is not the same as SOLAS/MED approval. Therefore, this detector should not be selected where MED/SOLAS approval is specifically required.

Approval summary

✓ ATEX
✓ IECEx
✓ CE
✓ ABS Type Approved
✓ IP68
✗ NOT SOLAS/MED APPROVED

The Honeywell BW Solo O₂ Standard is therefore a strong choice for professional oxygen monitoring in industrial, hazardous-area and marine applications where SOLAS/MED approval is not a requirement. For vessels or applications where SOLAS/MED-approved gas detection is mandatory, customers should select a product from your SOLAS Approved Gas Detection category instead.
